Here it finally is, a list of all the programs that I use and have used for quite some time. These programs I deem as useful for the average person. As you could have already guessed, they are all free and open source programs, many of them are way better than their proprietary equivalent (whether that be on Windows or some other closed-source OS).
Server Configuration
Here is a little on what I do for my website and how I host my email at my domain, the server setup itself is not that complicated. My entire website is pretty much hosted on a VPS (Virtual Private Server) that I'm renting. Hosting a website by using a VPS is far better than buying one of those host packages, as you can get far more out of the former, espcially when it comes to online computing. I not only host my website on my VPS, but also my email server, I host files and I run my very own search engine too. A lot of this wouldn't be possible if I was using one of those host packages. You have the option to install what you want, and run what you want. A VPS is essentially your very own physical server (not so virtual after all), except that it isn't located in your house, instead wherever you chose to run it from.
For my domain registrar, I use Epik. I have used other domain registrars before, but the majority of them are biased and can't resist the influence of the media nowadays.
